First Appointment

It went well, with all of the usual poking and prodding. They don't use the doppler until 12 weeks here so I got another ultrasound. It's pretty amazing how much it changes in just 1 week.

I took a bit of bad video with my phone as well. If you look really closely you can see it's little arms and legs moving.

I'll be having the NT at 13 weeks and my next appointment is at 14 weeks.

10 Weeks

Your baby is no longer an embryo! Though she's barely the size of a kumquat — just an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, she now has completed the most critical portion of her development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in her body rapidly grow and mature. Her vital organs — the liver, kidney, intestines, brain, and lungs — are now in place and starting to function (although they'll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy). Her liver continues to make blood cells, and the yolk sac, which previously supplied these cells, is no longer needed and begins to disappear.

During the next three weeks, your baby's length will more than double to nearly 3 inches. Her head is proportionately smaller now than it was a few weeks ago, but it's still almost half the length of her entire body. Her forehead temporarily bulges with her developing brain and sits high on her head; it will later recede to give her a more human appearance. Each day, more minute details — including tiny fingernails, toenails, and peach-fuzz hair — start to appear on her body. Her fingers are now completely separated; her arms bend at the elbow and curve slightly; her hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over her heart; her legs are lengthening; and her feet may be long enough to meet in front of her body. She is busily swallowing amniotic fluid and kicking her legs.

If you could take a peek at your baby this week, you'd be able to clearly see the outline of her spine through her parchment-thin skin. Spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from her spinal cord.

The baby changes a ton in this week (well 10 days, lol):

Getting Aggravated

We're planning on waiting until 15 weeks to tell the family, but I'm really wanting to do it now.

*sigh*

I hate getting antsy like this. Only 5 weeks left, lol.

9 Week Ultrasound

Well everything is looking good. Baby measured 8w5d, which is spot on with my last ultrasound. Heart rate was 161bpm.

The doctor feels that I shouldn't have any problems. He also said that he'd never tell a woman not to have more children because of retained placentas and that it shouldn't be too bad. They'll be prepared in case anything does go wrong.

Here's the bean:

I Had A Quickie

The worrying got the best of me and I went in for a quick ultrasound this afternoon.

I'm happy to report that the little one is still there, I saw it's heartbeat and a possible wiggle.

The OB was moving the thing around and he moved it when I think the baby wiggled, so it's only a possible wiggle.

It's amazing how much bigger it's gotten in 2 weeks.

I wish I had a picture, but I had to rush out and get ds#1 from school, so there wasn't time for anything but the quick peek.

Another thing that I saw was the actual chambers of it's heart, all teeny tiny. Even on the ultrasound the heart was smaller than a BB.

9 Weeks

Your new resident is nearly an inch long — barely the size of a grape — and weighs just a fraction of an ounce, but he's poised for rapid weight gain now that his basic physical structure is in place. He's also starting to look more and more human. His embryonic "tail" is now completely gone and his body parts — including organs, muscles, and nerves — are kicking into gear.

His eyelids are fused shut and won't open until 27 weeks. He has earlobes, and by week's end, the inner workings of his ears will be complete. His upper lip is fully formed, too, and his mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct. The tips of his fingers are slightly enlarged where his touch pads are developing. All major joints — his shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles — are working, enabling your baby to move his limbs. As for his heart, it has divided into four chambers now, and the valves have started to develop. External sex organs are there, but won't be distinguishable as male or female for another few weeks.

Baby looks a bit like something between this:

And this:

Obviously the blurb about development is a bit off, the eyelids won't be half closed til next week or so. The tail is just about gone though, that's always nice.

8-9w Belly Shot

Sometimes I look really pudgy, others I just have my normal, out of shape belly. Something is starting to feel different in my lower belly though.

Counting Down The Days...

My peri consult is next Thursday, I found out I'm also having an ultrasound. I'm so excited! Part of me wishes I didn't know though, it's making the wait even longer.

I'm so worried that something has happened to the baby. 8 weeks is 1 of the big points when things start to go wrong, I've had 2 big bleeds at 8 weeks in 2 different pregnancies; I lost 1 of them and the other was with my dd. After that it's 10 weeks, I have my OB appt then though, hopefully that'll help a bit.

I'm also going to try and order a doppler, we'll see how that goes though, lol. It is early, but I heard my last baby at 9w3d and this baby is in the same spot that he was so I've got a good chance of a repeat.

8 Weeks

Ahhh, I never thought I'd make it. I feel better, but at the same time I don't. I am a freak.

So here's baby's update for the week:

Your baby is now 5/8 of an inch long, about the size of a kidney bean. She's constantly moving and shifting, although you won't be able to feel these womb wiggles for several weeks yet. Her embryonic tail is disappearing, and her eyelids practically cover her eyes. Still slightly webbed, her fingers and toes are growing longer. Her arms have lengthened, too, and her hands are now flexed at the wrist and meet over her heart. Her knee joints have formed, and her feet may be long enough to meet in front of her body. With her trunk straightening out, her head is more erect. Breathing tubes extend from her throat to the branches of her developing lungs. The nerve cells in her brain are also branching out to connect with one another, forming primitive neural pathways. Though you may be daydreaming about your baby as one gender or another, the external genitals still haven't developed enough to reveal whether you're having a boy or a girl.

And looks like something between this:

And this:

By the end of the week it should look something like this:

Changing My EDD, Again

S0 I've decided to go with the EDD that my OB will be using, which is 25 March.

If, by chance, they do end up using the 29th (as per u/s) I'll go back to that.

So I'm going to stop with the developmental stuff, I'll do 1 weekly post, with pictures.

Just seems a bit easier.

Poor Babies

So I was looking for pictures of embryos and I came across this site.

It's horrible. The info says that the babies were taken from the uterus and placed in a warm water solution and touched with a hair. I know it was for research and all that, but it's still incredibly sad. Oh it was done in the 1950's and 1964.

Here's the link if you want to check it out:

The Widget

The baby in the widget changed yesterday, it looks more mammalian now.

And in case anyone was wondering, the most babies you can get in the widget is 10. Has anyone ever actually had 10 babies at once? They're called Decaplets.

Yep, someone did:

7w Belly Shot and Symptoms Update

I think I shrunk a bit, lol.

7 weeks

As far as symptoms, my nausea seems to have lessened. I'm trying not to worry but it's so hard not to. I'm not as tired as I was either. I also have a cold, I was miserable yesterday with sinus pain, but I'm feeling better today.

Day 36~ 7w1d

The cerebellum is beginning to develop. A primitive palate is forming on the roof of the baby's mouth. THe baby's hand plates will appear by today if they aren't already present. The elbow and wrist regions of the arm are becoming identifiable. The spleen is beginning to develop. The liver is now large enough to produce a bulge in the baby's abdomen.

Saturday, August 11, 2007

Day 35~ 7w

By now, the division between the cerebral hemispheres (2 halves of the baby's brain) is well marked. The upper and lower jaws are present. Mammary gland tissue is beginning to develop in both males and females. The baby weighs about .00004 ounce (.001g) (that's about as heavy as an eyelash from your lower lid).

By this time, your embryonic baby displays a whole-body reflex in response to touch.

Friday, August 10, 2007

Day 34~ 6w6d

Because of the rapid brain growth that has been occurring, the baby's head is much larger than it's trunk. The nasal pits are easily seen. The baby's legs now resemble paddles.

Thursday, August 9, 2007

Day 33~ 6w5d

The nasal pits are now prominent. The developing heart can be seen through the baby's chest wall. The final (and permanent) set of kidney's has been formed. In about a week, the kidneys will produce urine. In the next 4 days, the hand plates will appear (each hand plate contains tissues that will form the hands and fingers). The baby now measures about 1/3 of an inch (7-9mm) in length.

Wednesday, August 8, 2007

Day 32~ 6w4d

The baby's arms now look less like flippers and more like paddles.

Tuesday, August 7, 2007

Day 31~ 6w3d

Rapid brain and head growth continues. Cups are formed that will contain the eyeballs. A primitive mouth appears. The groove of tissue that appeared on Day 22 will now separate from the trachea (windpipe) and develop into the esophagus (the tube through which food is swallowed).

Monday, August 6, 2007

Day 30~ 6w2d

By this time 38 pairs of somites have formed (the somites form the bones and muscle of the head and trunk). If they haven't appeared already, the leg buds will be present today. The baby's brain has differentiated into the 3 main parts possessed by all human beings: the forebrain, the midbrain, and the hindbrain. The baby now measures 1/4 inch (6-7mm) long - that's 10,000 times bigger than at conception in only 30 days.

Day 29~ 6w1d

The lenses of the baby's eyes continue to form. The surface layer of the baby's skin will be formed this month. The tongue is recognizable and the nasal pits are beginning to form. Then lymphatic system (the system that filters out bacteria and other foreign particles) is beginning to develop. A second nonfunctional set of kidneys appears. The arms still look like flippers. The gonads are present but have not developed into ovaries (if your baby is a girl) or testes (if your baby is a boy). In either more days (by Day 37), the baby will be twice as long as it is today.

First Ultrasound

Well I had the ultrasound this morning, so far everything is looking well. Baby measured 6w2d, which means I'll be changing my tickers and all of the info for the days is 1 day off, I'll be adding 2 days worth today to catch up. The heart beat was 115bpm.

Here's the pic:

Gender Predictions

I'm just trying to kill time, so here's a list of the gender predicting sites and what they say this baby is. If you know of any that I don't have on here, please let me know so I can add them!

Madame Zaritska~

The day you deliver, outside will be windy. Your baby will arrive at night.

After a labor lasting approximately 3 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 7 pounds, 6 ounces, and will be 18 inches long. This child will have blue eyes and some very fine hair.

So that's 7 for Girl and 4 for Boy

6w~ Belly Shot

I think it's started to come out a bit.

6 weeks

My nausea, what little that I had, seems t0 have disappeared. And it's freaking me out. I'm trying so hard not to worry, but after 3 days of it being gone, I am.

Please let there be a healthy bean tomorrow!

Day 28~ 6w

The lenses of the baby's eyes are beginning to form. The lens bends the light that enters eye to focus a clear image for vision. The arms now look like flippers. In the next 3 days, the leg buds will appear. The first of 3 sets of kidneys will appear. (This set never becomes functional, however). The baby is shaped like a C, and the prominent feature is the tail, or end portion, of the baby's body, which now measures .16 to .24 inches long (4-6mm) crown to rump.

Cravings

I really wants chili fries, and not just any chili fries. Chili fries from wienerschnitzel. They don't have them here, the closest one is on the other side of Illinois. I started crying! I've never craved something so bad. We're going to go to Sonic, but I doubt it'll be as delicious as wienerschnitzel. I can't wait to go home and get me some chili fries.

Day 27~ 5w6d

By now the arm buds have appeared and a tiny liver has formed. The liver has many important functions involving the utilization of nutrients: it stores excess blood sugar and releases it when required, stores and metabolizes fat, breaks down excess protein (amino acids), synthesizes blood-clotting factors, and breaks down (or detoxifies) poisonous substances, including alcohol. The gall bladder, stomach, intestines, intestines, pancreas, and lungs are beginning to form. The thyroid continues its development.

The Digital

If you've ever been curious to know what this test looks like, here you go:

Obviously I added the music, it was awfully boring with just the blinking.

All in all it was almost a minute before the 'Pregnant' popped up.

For a 'Not Pregnant' it takes the full 3 minutes.

I think this picture is amazing.

It's a Day 26 embryo in it's membranes. Here's the caption:

The embryo is lying inside its closely fitting amniotic sac which lies inside the much larger chorionic sac. The yolk sac cannot be seen in this particular image.

Outside the chorionic sac highly-branched tertiary chorionic villi can be seen.

It finally looks like the baby in the widget.

Day 26~ 5w5d

The aorta of the baby's heart is beginning to form. The aorta is the largest artery of the body, carrying blood away from the heart to all organs and tissues. The baby's length is now measured from the top of it's head (crown) to the bottom of it's bottom (rump). The 'crown-to-rump' length at Day 26 is between .11 and .20 inches (3-5mm).

Thank You

Just wanted to say 'Thanks' to whoever voted in my poll over there

------->

Comments are welcome, too.

Day 25~ 5w4d

The eyes are beginning to form, and a tiny depression (or dimple) now marks the place on either side of the head where the baby's ear canal and inner ear will form. The digestive system is beginning to form from a portion of the yolk sac. In the next 3 days, the arm buds will appear.

2nd Appt

Well I didn't learn anything. I have an appt with the perinatologists at UNMC 23 August and my first 'real' OB appt 30 August.

So, again, I wait.

At least they are listening to me, which is more than I can say for my last OB.

On the bright side I had 8 vials of blood taken today.

1st Appt

I had my nurses appt this morning, nothing fancy about that. I have to go do the blood work this afternoon.

She pulled out the wheel, gave me an EDD of 25 March, making me 6w2d. Which I know is wrong, but I'll humor them til my ultrasound.

I've been having this burning pain in my side, she said to mention it to the OB, so we'll see what happens with that. Maybe I'll get an ultrasound today, that would be cool.

Day 24~ 5w3d

The next 18 days mark a critical period for arm and leg development. At this point, the baby has no visible arms or legs. But in another 48hrs, the tiny buds that will form the arms suddenly appear. The eyes will also begin to form. The spinal cord is beginning to form between pairs of somites. Liver and pancreas buds are present. The embryo now assumes a curved shape, with a prominent bump representing the head.
